Philadelphia's City Commissioners Office partnered with the School District of Philadelphia to host a competition open to all students and residents of the city. I first heard about the “I Voted” sticker contest in our Hatchery class, a course designed to provide students with real-world design experience. My parents happened to be visiting that weekend, so we spent the day exploring the city — wandering through City Hall and beyond as I began brainstorming. Those early ideas became sketches, and with thoughtful critique from my professor Bryan Satalino and classmates, the final designs began to take shape. Everyone in my class submitted work, joining over 150 total entries — from kindergartners to professional graphic designers. Nine finalists were selected by a panel of judges from their respective categories, and public voting began. I was happy just to be named a finalist — and the fact that I won still feels surreal, even after watching the design return with each election day since.
